Guided Transport

Transrapid

Transrapid International

Transrapid is the world’s most advanced high speed ground transportation system, perfected over 25 years by the leaders of German industry, in partnership with the German Government.

Thyssen Henschel, the developer of Transrapid, has been building trains since 1848 and has supplied over 30,000 units world wide, since then.

High speed wheel-on-rail systems have reached their practical operating ceiling for high speed travel.

Transrapid was designed and developed to provide centre to centre trip times that are equal to or better than air travel, for distances up to 1400 km.

Transrapid’s advantages include:

  • Shortest possible trip times;

  • Lowest environmental impacts;

  • Greatest safety;

  • Reduced air pollution caused by alternative modes;

  • Low energy consumption;

  • Low operating costs;

  • Low maintenance costs;

  • Long service life;

  • Competitive implementation cost;

  • Adds new capacity to public transport networks;

  • Adds new capacity to freight transport networks;

  • Foundation for a 21st century network;

  • Great potential for future advances;

  • Fully developed and ready for use in Australia; and

  • Technically underwritten by Daimler-Chrysler, Siemens and ThyssenKrupp.
