Dr Charles Cheung, (charios2000@yahoo.com)





Charles currently works as a transport consultant with UK-based consultancy firm Steer Davies Gleave. Over the past nine years, Charles specialised in the development of patronage demand and revenue forecasting tools to support investment decisions on a wide range of transport infrastructure projects including highway, bus, tram, light rail, heavy rail and toll roads.

Charles has in-depth understanding of the complexity of the various supply and demand parameters that influence travel behaviour and has led development of travel forecasting tools for both UK and international studies including in the United States, Australia and Hong Kong (China). Prior to the move to the UK, Charles worked with Maunsell Australia and Planning Workshop Australia.

John Black has been instrumental in the progress of Charles' career development. Charles was a student of John in both the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees during the late 1990s and early 2000s at the University of New South Wales.  Charles' PhD thesis was on the topic spatial interaction and its impact on sustainable transport and since then John and Charles have collaborated and published ten academic and research papers in international journals and conference proceedings. Their research collaboration focused on sustainable transport, spatial interaction and polycentric development in a metropolitan context.
